I have been coming to Dr. Virtue for a few years now and I now have my 6 months smile and thanks to Dr. Virtue and his staff I cannot stop smiling.

Dr. William Virtue, DDS, NMD – General dentistry by caring hands.
My name is Dr. Bill Virtue and I practice in Yadkinville, North Carolina and I have been practicing for 34 years. I first became aware of the dangers of mercury fillings from a colleague of mine in Winston Salem – and decided to attend a meeting in Durham with IAOMT. That was my first experience and was rather shocked at what I learned that weekend. I was shocked because what I had been doing and practicing what I had been taught in dental school wound up not to be the thing to do. It was difficult to kind of wrestle with the concept that I had been doing the wrong things by putting mercury in people’s mouth, and using fluoride. For someone who has been trained and practicing for a number of years you tend to believe what your dental school taught you. You also tend to believe what the ADA told us, so if you are protecting the patients the ultimate amount you can. You are also protecting your staff member and yourself from the dangers of mercury. Making a patient comfortable not only physically comfortable but emotionally comfortable so they know they are in the right place. A lot of people who come into a biological dentist have been to a lot of different dentists that they have not heard the right thing, we know that if we have patients who is generally very educated about biological dentistry because these people they go on the web they are out reading the internet – they learn a lot about what should be done. One of the things we teach in the fundamentals is that if you don’t do all the right things, that patient will know it in a heartbeat, so they have to be comfortable emotionally knowing that you are the right person to do the job for them. Understand that you have to get the mercury out of the mouth before you get it out of the body. So once we remove it from the mouth and with the subsequent visits, each visit the patient might go directly back to the physician alternative physician I point that so that the physician can chelate that patient with various medicine – it might be vitamin c or BMSA or whatever because we are trying to make sure that it stays out of the body and get it out of the body – so it is a combination of working with us and working with physicians but patients often come back and tell us how much better they feel or how much better they chew, how much better they feel – you know there are 2 aspects to dentistry. You have the people who want to do just cosmetic dentistry and people want to be pretty – we all want to be prettier, but the beauty of biological dentistry is even the back teeth are going to be prettier because they are the same colour of that tooth rather than have the black filings. You know it is a shame to put a set of veneers on a pretty lady and when she smiles she still has black teeth at the back so what we do by removing those in a proper safe way allows that patient to be even more beautiful and feel even healthier – now we show- we have imaging we have cameras that we show the patients. We have the TV monitors and explain all the cracks in the teeth. I have never taken a mercury filling out of the tooth, that does not have cracks in it. People come in all the time and say – you know I was eating mashed potatoes and my tooth broke. The truth was the tooth was broken before but it came apart when they were eating something, so by showing the patient what this mercury filing – what we find in 6 year molars of the lower jaw are the most commonly crowned tooth because that is the first one to get filled with a mercury filing so as that mercury filling gets replaced with a bigger one and a bigger one. Eventually the tooth breaks either requiring a root canal or certainly requiring a crown. So with biological dentistry what we are doing is we are going to find that, incipient we call it lesion or a little tiny cavity – we are going with a lot of time with children particularly we are going to clean that out without even numbing it many times and put a bonded filing in there – that maybe the last time that tooth was worked on – so that is one of the many advantages of biological dentistry, and at the same time have the confidence to know that I have experienced to do it properly.

Over the past 35 years I have been practicing dentistry one of the things that I have often noticed in my patients and myself is lower dentures. Many patients don’t wear their dentures or partials because they don’t like food getting under them or jut the feel of something forward in your mouth – if this sounds like you – why not consider implants. Implants are placed quickly, painlessly, very affordable and very successfully– to learn more about this and other health issues – go to ABC45.com and click on health matters.

Yadkinville, North Carolina dentist Dr. William Virtue discusses holistic dentistry. Hello and welcome to DCA TV I am your host Elika Jay and I am here today with Dr. William Virtue dentist at Virtue dental care. Dr. Virtue has dedicated his professional career to provide patients with the best of what dentistry has to offer with the higher standard of health and safety. Dr. Virtue practices mercury safe bio compatible dentistry in accordance with the highest standards of health and safety as outlined by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, which he was also the past president, the leading association of dental professional committed to biocompatible dental practices. We are delighted to speak to him today on a Few topics, which will give us clear idea of some of the common dental procedures. Welcome Dr. Virtue to DC TV and thank you for being on the show today.
Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you. Today Dr. Virtue will enlighten on some of the common questions you may have for holistic dentistry,
Dr. Virtue can you tell us what is holistic dentistry?
Well holistic dentistry is dentistry that takes the whole body into mind, in the past and still the present dentistry is usually the dentist looks at the tooth and the decides the best thing for that particular tooth for whatever the particular application it is – holistic dentistry is going to take in the fact of the immune system and the health of the patient so that we select material that are more biocompatible to the patient in other words we are always trying to optimize the immune system. Now I am the past president of the international academy of oral medicine toxicology, and also teach this material to dentists who want to learn to become bio compatible.
How is holistic dentistry different?
Well holistic dentistry is differ in the sense that we actually can do a biocompatibility study it is a blood test that can be done where we can choose materials and there is probably 6000 different materials in this booklet and the booklet comes back and we can actually choose what bonding material to use what tooth coloured filings to use, what crown we might have to use or whatever dental expertise you were doing. We can check through this book and find out what is compatible in the patient.
Who chooses holistic dentistry?
Well that is an interesting question because dentistry seems to be divided more or less between aesthetic dentistry and holistic density and the folks that we find and become more interested in the holistic or biocompatible dentistry come in from the internet. People who are more interested in aesthetic dentistry come in from a different avenue but what I have found over the years is the people who listen are interested in holistic dentistry are very knowledgeable about that subject and when I lecture to my students to teach this I tell them look you have to know what you are talking about because these patients will come in and they will know more about you on this and so you really need to bone up and study and be doing the right thing.
How does holistic dentistry go beyond ordinary dentistry?
Well as I said it takes a biocompatible issue into effect, and we are not just trying to fix a tooth we are trying to fix the patient. A lot of times people don’t realize you stick something in the mouth you are sticking it in the body so what that means is that we don’t use mercury filling. We have not used mercury filings in 20 years and the patient looks back into their mouth and they see what we commonly call a silver filing or amalgam they are 50 percent mercury so I call them mercury fillings so what I say a holistic is going to do is more safely remove those filings by using special suction equipment by using oxygen supply, vinyl dams and atom ionizers in the rooms in our basement we have a mercury collection system, it collects – you know 99 percent of the mercury that comes out of the patient’s mouth, and you realize that in most dental offices that mercury goes right into the septic system and it is estimated that 40 percent of the mercury in stream and rivers comes from dental offices but a bio compatible dentist will have a separator in his basement and will take that material out so that it does not get into our streams and rivers and that of course is recycled with a certified recycler with heavy waste like that.
Thank you so much for your time Dr. Virtue and for being with us today it was a pleasure! Well thank you I appreciate it.

Understanding biological dentistry, general dentistry by caring hands. At Virtue dental care we believe patients should have access to general dentistry solutions that focus on biocompatibility. Dr. Virtue and his team work closely with individuals who ensure everything done in the mouth is appropriate for the body as a whole. Biological dentistry is a field of dental care that specializes in providing care beyond the smile. Thanks to continued advances in technology and a better understanding of oral health and wellness dental teams can employ bio compatible dentistry techniques in their dental practices, easier than ever before. Not only do procedures ensure a natural look for the smile but they protect the body from other concerns. A perfect example of this is preventative care for periodontal disease and cavities. Periodontal disease can be carried through the body; this is because the bacteria causing the infection flows through the blood stream and can affect other organs, including the heart. Patients with periodontal disease may find themselves at a higher risk for a variety of conditions including strokes, heart disease and diabetes. By ensuring the smile is infection free patients can improve their overall health too. Dr. Virtue has extensive training which allows him to be branded as a biocompatible dentist in the area of Yadkinville North Carolina. His team of professionals are dedicated to helping with the removal and replacement of mercury filings. Our practice safely removes these old fillings and provides new filings using a material called composite resin, which is safer and more aesthetic.

A walk in the park – a patient’s guide to Sedation Dentistry. Want to know a secret? It is what most people don’t know. Dentistry does not have to be painful or scary, what if you could enjoy your dental experience in complete comfort, what if you did not have to have multiple visits or rammer the sights smells and sounds? We will usually give you a prescription or sedative to take the night before your first appointment to guarantee a good night’s sleep and make sure you wake up relaxed. Also you should not eat or drink 6 hours prior to your appointment unless otherwise directed by your dentist.
Sedation dentistry – I tell everyone about it when they say ugh I don’t like to go to the dentist. It is like go to sedation dentistry it is no big deal they take a pill, and you are done! It is awesome. Sedation dentistry provides a dental experience like no other. Hours seem like minutes and recovery is a dream. He more common questions patients have about sedation dentistry is just how comfortable is it?
I recommend it, I really recommend not knowing what happened at the dentist the next day. Once you are completely relaxed and comfortable your sedation dentist will be able to work quickly and efficiently to perform larger amounts of dentistry and fewer visits and since sedation medications have an amnesic effect you will have very little if any memory of the sights smells or sounds of your visit making your visit feel short and sweet. Your sedation dentistry will work with you to maximize your insurance benefits and make convenient financial arrangements that will be as comfortable as sedation dentistry. It improved my life in so many ways, appearance wise to begin with but also I really see the correlation between good dental health and your overall health and I realize that I would
not be feeling as healthy as I do now if I had not gone in and if the sedation dentistry had not been available i probably would not have gone back in. so it is kind of hard to say where I would even be without it.
It is important to remember that dentistry has come a long way, countless years of research have been dedicated to studying and finding methods to alleviate pain and anxiety – these are safe and time tested options now available to ensure that you have a positive and painless experience. Talk to your dentist about your fears and concerns so they can better meet your needs. If you have questions not answered in this information please write them down and bring them with you to your welcome visit. Ask your doctor if you have any questions
