Orthodontics refer to the correction of improperly-positioned teeth and jaws. This treatment uses fixed or removable dental appliances that place gentle pressure on the teeth and jaws. When worn as advised by dentists such as Dr. Mary Katherine Taylor, teeth are moved into proper place. Muscles are retrained and jaws repositioned.
Treatment in young children is known as “interceptive orthodontics.” It starts as the jaw is still developing, in pediatric patients as young as 6. While some conditions such as crowding may be easier to address in youth, more adults are benefiting from modern orthodontics.
Dr. Mary Katherine Taylor offers two options that may be attractive alternatives to traditional metal braces for adult patients.
Using dental aligners made from clear plastic, Invisalign treatment is completed on average in about a year. Invisalign may be used to readjust the bite and for more severe misalignment.
The aligner trays responsible for straightening and bite correction are designed to fit your mouth comfortably. Unlike other orthodontics, Invisalign trays may be removed for up to 4 hours each day. You can clean between and around teeth and gums without wires and brackets interfering. Aligners are removed during meals.
You will change to a new set of aligners every 2 weeks. Each set corresponds with a step in treatment to incrementally shift teeth into proper alignment.
Dr. Mary Katherine Taylor applies the latest technology to the latest straightening methods, assuring your experience is pleasant and outcomes are desirable. Out with the messy molds used to create an impression of your mouth, and in with a digital impression.
