How NuCalm Works

Dr. William E. Virtue DDS, NMD, at Virtue Dental Care Nucalm dentistry NuCalm works by putting patients into the calming alpha (beginning) stages of sleep. Anyone who has ever put their head down at night after a particularly long day knows the feelings of relaxation that occur as the worries of the world disappear, eyes begin to become heavy, and you begin to drift off into sleep.

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to a perceived threat. Once we begin to feel a threat, whether it is perceived or real, the body begins to produce adrenaline and we lose our ability to rationalize away the anxiety. Anxiety responses can be behavioral, emotional, or somatic. All of these components are what causes feelings of worry and apprehension. Physical responses to anxiety can include chest pain, heart palpitations, nausea, headaches, muscle tension, shortness of breath, or irritability.

When NuCalm is utilized, patients are incapable of having the physiological and biological responses to anxiety. Many patients describe NuCalm as similar to a deep meditation experience.

The NuCalm system is scientifically designed to transition your brain through the steps it follows right before you fall asleep. The four-prong approach includes supplements, Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation, calming music, and light-blocking eye masks.

The supplements control the body’s cortisol and adrenaline production, which affects how you respond to stress and anxiety, helping you drift into a sleep state. CES helps your body absorb these supplements by activating the brain receptors. Headphones with calming music along with light blocking glasses continue to help your body block out activity and response to light and sound to maintain your relaxed state.
