Your safety is our concern
The FDA has advised ‘vulnerable’ groups - pregnant and lactating women; women trying to conceive; fetuses, infants and younger kids; those with neurological or kidney issues; and those allergic to mercury – to avoid dental amalgam. We take this advice very seriously. That’s why we consider mercury-free smiles as a priority!

What is a dental crown?

Our team describes the dental crown as a porcelain restoration, sometimes referred to as a “cap,” that covers the natural tooth on all sides to add an extra layer of protection against breakage. They are also used over implants to replace a single missing tooth.

What is a dental onlay?

Onlays are restorations fabricated to be bonded onto a tooth that has breakage that is small enough to be protected with an onlay instead of a dental crown. This more conservative option requires less removal of healthy natural tooth enamel.

How long does it take to obtain custom dental crowns?

At most other dental offices in the Yadkinville, North Carolina area, the process of obtaining a dental crown can take weeks. This is because the dental office doesn’t have the facility to make in-house dental restorations. The tooth is prepared by removing natural enamel. Then messy impressions are made and sent to a laboratory to complete the final restoration. A temporary crown is bonded in place by the dentist to protect the tooth until the patient can get back into the office to bond the final one in place. The process can take several weeks.

Fortunately, Virtue Dental Care offers same-day, single-visit dental crowns and onlay restorations. This is thanks to the CEREC technology used at our facility.

What is CEREC?

It stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It is a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system that allows us to create inlays, onlays, crowns, and even dental implants in one visit. With CEREC technology, we can take digital impressions of the prepared tooth instead of messy goop impressions and create a custom restoration in just one visit.

This means less time spent in the dentist’s chair for our patients and a beautiful, natural-looking restoration all in one appointment. So if you are curious about how long it takes to obtain a dental crown at Virtue Dental Care, the answer is just one visit!
