Your safety is our concern
The FDA has advised ‘vulnerable’ groups - pregnant and lactating women; women trying to conceive; fetuses, infants and younger kids; those with neurological or kidney issues; and those allergic to mercury – to avoid dental amalgam. We take this advice very seriously. That’s why we consider mercury-free smiles as a priority!

27055 zip code dentist describes sedation dentistry

Dr Virtue of Virtue Dental Care, is a general and cosmetic dentist who provides methods of sedation to help patients in the 27055 zip code and surrounding areas to enjoy a more positive experience at the dental office. It is common for patients of all ages to feel anxious or apprehensive about visiting the dentist. Some patients have had negative experiences that make them nervous about seeing a dental professional. Others have strong gag reflexes and have difficulty with others in their “personal space.” Dr. Virtue offers sedation methods to relax patients and allow them to relax during the process instead of fearing it.

Dentist in 27055 Area

There are two types of sedation offered by Dr. Virtue, nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. Both are effective in addressing anxieties.

Nitrous Oxide

Also referred to as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide can reduce anxiety almost immediately. It is administered through the nose with a mask as patients breathe in and out. It can relax them to the point where they may become euphoric. It has a similar effect on adults as a few glasses of wine may. Nitrous oxide can also help with pain reduction. Patients who receive nitrous oxide during their appointment are able to drive themselves home.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Another method of sedation available at Virtue Dental Care is oral conscious sedation. For this method, the dentist prescribes medication in advance of the appointment. Patients take this medication by mouth approximately one hour before their visit, and arrange for transportation to and from the dental office. During the appointment, patients are coherent and conscious. They are able to follow instructions and answer questions. However, once they have gone home to rest, they wake up without being able to recall much, if any, of their appointment. This is a wonderful arrangement to get patients to the dental practice for much-needed dental treatments, as well as for those who need to undergo several procedures in a single appointment.
