Rating: 5 Dermatologist Walnut Creek - Five Star Reviews By James W.
Dr. William E. Virtue DDS, FIAOMT, NMD
I have been going to Dr. Virtue's dental office for many years after going to many other dentists in the area with no sucess. This practice is the TOTAL EXPERIENCE! From the time in walk in until you walk out you feel that not only are you in the best hands but that you are among experienced, caring friends. Not only do they care about their patients but about each other and it is apparent from the first visit. If you are looking for a dentist I strongly recommend Virtue Dental Care in Yadkinville. It is worth trying. Bet you can't just go one time!

The benefits of seeing a mercury safe dentist in the Piedmont, NC area

For a long time, amalgam dental fillings were one of the most common ways to restore tooth decay. Widely used by dentists across the world, chances are you may have or at least know someone who has an amalgam filling. Since it was so commonly used, amalgam was simply accepted as a safe material. As more and more research has become known, there has been a shift away from amalgam because of the potential health risks.

One of the biggest risks associated with amalgam fillings is mercury exposure. Amalgam fillings contain a mix of metals, including up to 50 percent liquid mercury. Mercury is widely known for its toxicity and that extends to its use in the mouth. When the amalgam fillings are heated, which occurs during biting, chewing, and tooth brushing, the mercury vapors are released and absorbed into the body.

Virtue Dental Care is a mercury safe dentistry practice that utilizes only metal-free restorations. It is important to us to keep our patients’ heath as our number one priority. Mercury and metal-free dentistry allows us to say with confidence that we are only using the safest materials in all of our procedures. As an alternative to amalgam fillings, we offer tooth-colored composite fillings, which are safe and natural looking.

There are many other benefits to being a mercury-free practice. By utilizing only biocompatible materials for restorations, there is a much lower risk of allergic reactions. Composite resins also eliminate dark spots that are often visible with amalgam fillings. Composite fillings can be color-matched to blend in with the teeth and make a far more aesthetic restoration.

While amalgam was once considered the most durable option for fillings, it has been discovered that since it can expand and contract, amalgam actually leaves the tooth susceptible to fractures. Composite acts very similarly to tooth enamel in the way it changes with temperature variances.

The benefits of a mercury safe dental practice are far reaching. To learn more about dental care that has your total health in mind, call us today.
