Dr. William E. Virtue, D.D.S., N.M.D.
It is my belief that dentistry is not only about helping you maintain the best dental health possible, but also about encouraging your overall health. Because of this, I practice mercury-free, biocompatible dentistry in accordance with the highest standards of health and safety as outlined by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the leading association of dental professionals committed to biocompatible dental practices. What is biocompatible dentistry? Biocompatible dentistry recognizes the impact toxic materials commonly used in dentistry can have on a patient’s oral, physiological and overall health. As such, biological dentistry is focused on the integrity of the oral cavity and uses materials and procedures that are completely safe and non-toxic to the body. I became interested in biological dentistry over 15 years ago with the discovery that my aunt and grandmother (both on my mother's side) had suffered and died from Lou Gehrigs disease. While my grandmother died of this disease before I was born, I witnessed my aunt's suffering and demise. Beyond my aunt's eventually passing from Lou Gehrigs disease, three of her children also contracted and died from this terrible disease. Being ever interested in the connection between dentistry and whole-body health, I realized that my Aunt had a mouth full of mercury fillings and began investigating the connection between this fact and neuro-muscular disease. I was trained in dentistry at Indiana University and then opened my practice here in beautiful Yadkinville, NC, in 1979. In addition to practice biocompatible dentistry, I also believe that coming to the dentist’s office should be a pleasant experience. This is why my you’ll enjoy amenities such as eye pillows, relaxation tapes, massage cushions, and more. My supporting office staff has been carefully hand-picked and each person is a valued member of a team whose primary goal is to provide you with the most advanced dental care in a pleasing environment. I am also continually educating myself in the latest dental therapies and techniques. I have accumulated more than 2000 hours of continuing education through dental courses in order to enhance my philosophy of providing patients with the best, most progressive methods for saving and restoring their teeth and health. All of this means better, faster, and more permanent results all in a comfortable, relaxing experience! I am a devoted family man and together with my wife of 25 years we have two daughters and 4 wonderful granddaughters . The newest addition and baby of the family is our rescued beagle/boston terrier mix -- also a girl! We love snow skiing and boating as a family and enjoy spending our free time at our home on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, where we can appreciate the wildlife, mountains, and lake life. I am also committed to serving both the local community and my professional community. I am an active member in the Yadkinville Sertoma Club and the Academy of General Dentistry, have served as president of the Forum for Contemporary Dental Esthetics, am a fellow in the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and later this year will become its president. I also enjoy teaching dentists and their staff the techniques and equipment of Biologic Dentistry. Overall, I feel very blessed in my practice and home life, and I feel a great deal of gratitude for my patients. I look forward to an opportunity to help you achieve the beautiful, healthy smile you deserve and if we can be of any assistance at all, please don’t hesitate to Contact Us! |
